The name comes from one of the first permanent amusement parks to bear it, built at Coney Island (New York) in 1903.
In the years that followed, parks were built with the same philosophy and took the name luna park — such as the Prater in Vienna, the Englischer Garten in Munich, and in the 1920s those of Tivoli in Copenhagen and Tibidabo in Barcelona.
